Velo-city 2023 Leipzig will be jointly hosted by the European Cyclists’ Federation, the City of Leipzig and Leipziger Messe from 9 to 12 May 2023.

For many years, Leipzig has been Germany‘s most dynamic and fastest growing major city. The vibrant city stands for change like no other European city. Just 30 years ago, it was characterised by open-cast coal mines, industrial decline, and disastrous infrastructure and traffic routes. Today, Leipzig is crisscrossed by a green belt, the opencast mines have turned to lakescapes and the city and region rely on sustainable mobility and state-of-the-art transport solutions to grow in an economically and demographically sustainable manner.

Step by step, Leipzig’s comprehensive and safe network of cycling lanes is expanding creating safe routes for everyday travel. The design of our future mobility system and the fair allocation of public space are the central policy fields for the sustainable development of our society.

Leipzig’s history is one of change. This change can be felt every day – by everyone. Velo-city 2023 Leipzig will show what is possible when you shape the future with courage and energy.

Since its first edition in 1980, Velo-city has played a valuable part in promoting cycling as a sustainable and healthy means of transport for all. Each conference takes place over the course of four days with a programme of more than 60 sessions. While the Velo-city site visits and technical tours are a chance to learn more about the history and cycling policies of the host city, the conference itself leads the discussion on best practices and social events, such as the dinner party, are an opportunity to make new connections and even dance! The traditional bike parade, one of the most anticipated conference highlights, brings together thousands of local cyclists and Velo-citizens for a memorable afternoon of exploration of our host city and a celebration of everyday cycling. The conference itself takes place around the dynamic Velo-city exhibition that serves to showcase the latest innovations for a better cycling experience in cities and beyond.
